Perhaps cause by your local python version? Could an try if editing Program Files\Ardour8\debug.bat and adding the following helps? set PATH=%~dp0\gdb12\;%PATH% see also https://github.com/Ardour/ardour/commit/4b83915335781d51186f9deb6ac5c1070d85ba81 |

I am out of ideas why that would be. I cannot reproduce this here, nor can two harrison employees. So far the only clue is that you have a system wide python install, but setting PATH should have fixed that. can you try in gdb (after using ctrl+c to get to the commandline) (gdb) py >import sys >print(sys.executable) >end |

The output from print(sys.exectutable) was : c:\program files\ardour8/bin/python Does the direction of the \ and the / matter in Win 10 ? Back in the day it did, but I do not know about now. |

Interesting.. Can you try to copy pyhon.exe fom gdb12 to bin? I also get this "incorrect" sys.executable, but here without a system-wide install of python the bundled python.exe is used regardless. |

Copying python.exe to bin did not work. I removed it from the bin directory and tried again. The previous version of gdb was ancient, from the days where there was no python support. Since we now use C++17 it was no longer useful. The two slashes in PYTHONPATH are not a problem. That's idempotent, though you're right it looks nicer to only have one. Could not find platform independent libraries <prefix> Could not find platform dependent libraries <exec_prefix> Consider setting $PYTHONHOME to <prefix>[:<exec_prefix>] Those warnings are also of no consequence. I get them as well. We only ship a very minimal version of python, just enough to satisfy gdb. The python version on your system matches the one we ship, the PYTHONPATH looks fine and gdb12/python3.10/gdb/__init__.py defines the function. This should work .. and yet it does not on your box. So far it seems your system is the only affected one. But extrapolating there are likely 30 other users who just don't report this issue. I think we're in need of a Windows expert to track this down. |

I have had several version of Python 2 and 3 on this machine over the years, along with Cygwin, MinGw, Visual Studio, PyCharm, PyScripter, and various Python open source projects and other non-python compilers. The only thing that comes to my mind would be a path, or registry setting causing this. It would be nice to find out. I am no expert, but someday I may take the time to see what I can do. I will install Ardour 8.9 for now. Hopefully the Ardour team will get a Windows Developer some day. Thank you for your time checking into this. |
