Summary | 0009012: tempo line selection moves the playhead, causing various woes
Description | When clicking on the tempo line, without first having selected a valid modifier, the cursor is moved. Blocks any work on the timeline. Once this happens, nothing can be done, you can only scrub the playhead. (This has always been the case BTW) If you have popped the playhead in a reference position, then you just lost that reference....yes you can create a sync point, but then you have to muck about selecting ranges, and you may already have a sync point in that range that you don't wish to lose, or you can use markers etc. ... in any case it just generally complicates things, Generally speaking, one expects that selecting widget A does not cause widget B to be selected. (Which is why I marked this as a a bug, not feature).
Steps To Reproduce | Current behaviour: Select tempo line with mouse, without first having held down a (valid) modifier. Expected behaviour: click timeline selects the timeline, (causing the timeline to be highlighted) and allows work on the timeline, without selecting/moving the playhead.

There is no selection for the tempo "line", but otherwise agreed that it should work this way. |

revising my previous comment: since there is no concept of selection the whole of the tempo ruler, or any segment of it, "click selects makes no sense. You'd need to define what operations you think could/should be performed on a selected segment before I think about this further. |

Sure, I'll change my sematics here: if I click a range to work with it, the playhead doesn't move. If I click a midi note, the playhead doesn't move. I would expect the same of the tempoline - it's just as much an object to modify in my song as a range or a midi note is. And once selected, one should be able to select/change modifiers and the resultant operation changes along with it. Example operation: 1. Select timeline with or without modifiers. The play head remains in position*. 2. Be able to change the modifiers and stretch tempo and/or ramp tempo until I have aligned everything how I want 3. Deselect. Bingo. *not sure if this should be relative or absolute. I can think of arguments for both cases. |

You cannot select the timeline! That's no an operation. The rulers ("timeline") are intended to be an area where you can *always* click to move the playhead to that point. Operations where clicking (i.e. no drag) on timeline objects are significant should inhibit that behavior (e.g context-click on a tempo marker). |
