Summary | 0008797: Problem loading color profile
Description | Dear All, I am not sure whether this is a real issue of Ardour or rather something that needs to be addressed at the level of the OS, but I wasn't sure where to post, and I didn't want to leave it unattended. I run Ardour 6.9.0 from the Ubuntu packages. When I start it up, it gets stuck while loading a color profile: WARNING: Your system has a limit for maximum amount of locked memory! This might cause Ardour to run out of memory before your system runs out of memory. You can view the memory limit with 'ulimit -l', and it is normally controlled by /etc/security/limits.conf Ardour6.9.0~ds0~ubuntu (built using 6.9.0~ds0~ubuntu-0ubuntu1~ubuntu20.04.1~ppa1 and GCC version 9.3.0) Ardour: [INFO]: Your system is configured to limit Ardour to 1048576 open files Ardour: [INFO]: Loading system configuration file /etc/ardour6/system_config Ardour: [INFO]: Loading user configuration file /home/johannes/.config/ardour6/config Ardour: [INFO]: CPU vendor: GenuineIntel Ardour: [INFO]: AVX-capable processor Ardour: [INFO]: AVX with FMA capable processor Ardour: [INFO]: CPU brand: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8550U CPU @ 1.80GHz Ardour: [INFO]: Using AVX and FMA optimized routines Ardour: [INFO]: Loading plugin meta data file /usr/share/ardour6/plugin_metadata/plugin_tags Ardour: [INFO]: Loading default ui configuration file /etc/ardour6/default_ui_config Ardour: [INFO]: Loading 452 MIDI patches from /usr/share/ardour6/patchfiles Ardour: [INFO]: Loading color file /usr/share/ardour6/themes/dark-ardour.colors From there, there is no escape except killing the process. Workaround for me was to rename the file dark-ardour.colors (ardour eventually realizes it doesn't exist and loads another color theme). I noticed that this issue has appeared in the past already, though a while ago, on other systems and apparently with Ardour 5. See eg. https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/54389 The proposed solutions in these cases, involving messing with the GTK settings, didn't work for me.

This is a known bug in GTK+2, and it will never be fixed (GTK+2 has been end-of-life'd). Our official build of Ardour does not have this problem (we explicitly prohibit loading system GTK rc files). If you want this fixed in the Ubuntu package, you would need to talk to the Ubuntu packagers. |
|
Packaging error; problem does not occur with ardour.org builds. |
