Summary0006513: Huge sound delay when using ZynAddSubFX LV2 plugin with Ardour 4.2, Yoshimi LV2 crashes
DescriptionWhen I load my session with Ardour 4.2, I have troubles using ZynAddSubFX as LV2 plugin: the plugin UI is very slow, the sound it produces is delayed. Other plugins in the session run well though. When I try to use Yoshimi LV2 as alternative it crashes Ardour. In the previous version of Ardour (4.1) I have no troubles with ZynAddSubFX LV2 and a small issue with Yoshimi: it forgets chosen sound bank when I use transport controls, though when I use loop play mode it runs rather good.

Could you please get a backtrace? http://ardour.org/debugging_ardour

Are there other plugins in the session? Can you produce the crash with ardour + yoshimi alone?

PS. there is no official zynaddsubfx lv2 version, it is still being worked on. You must have gotten that from a 3rd party.

 I included 2 backtraces:
1) ardour + yoshimi alone
2) the session with other plugins.
Ardour crashes when I try to change sound bank in Yoshimi.
I use zynaddsubfx lv2 which comes in carla-lv2 package from kxstudio repository. In Ardour 4.1 it works very well, but in 4.2 it lags too much. It is the same when I use ALSA or Jack backend.

Both crashes are in yoshimi_lv2.so there's nothing we can do about this.

The issue may have been present for a long time and simply not have caused imminent crashes in the plugin host (here ardour). Please contact yoshimi upstream.

PS the zynaddsubfx lag may be explained by https://github.com/Ardour/ardour/commit/53e969e9 (which is pretty much the only change regarding LV2 in Ardour from 4.1 to 4.2)

falktx (author or Carla and KXStudio plugins) is aware of the issue and looking into fixing this. Some of the KXStudio provided plugins expect "max buffersize" to be "current buffersize". I do not know if his zynaddsubfx fork is affected but it would certainly explain the issue.

Thank you. I've done bugreports for Yoshimi and Carla. I'll use Ardour 4.1 for a while to workaround the issues, until developers of Yoshimi and Carla will fix them.
