Summary0009854: Ace Fluid Synth - Shows different path when track is duplicated
DescriptionSimilar to the following request I made about making tracks duplicate exactly the same as the original
https://tracker.ardour.org/view.php?id=9829
this post is more specifically about Ace Fluid Synth plugin duplicated tracks.

If you have a MIDI track with Ace Fluid Synth loaded as the instrument,
when you load a soundfont,
and then click on the open soundfont button again to open the file picker dialog,
it shows the actual folder location where that soundfont is located.
Which is expected.

However if you duplicate this track,
then instead of showing the true path location of the soundfont,
instead it shows the path to the Ardour project, where the soundfont is linked to.
Which is not desired.

If this is possible, would any one be willing to make it show the true path like the original track does, rather then the location of the shortcut link file in the projects save location path?

Thank You

I am uncertain, but I think that LV2 plugins can and do copy certain files that are used within the plugin. It stores it in the project folder so it is always available, even when the project is moved to a different machine.

Since the soundfont is stored in the directory, that would be the location of the soundfont file, and why it is giving you that directory.

You can verify by checking the project directory.

I had checked before I made my original post and knew that the plugin does make a link (shortcut) file for the the soundfont file.
What I did not know and what I recently discovered is that while in the initial session, the original Ace Fluid Synth plugin that is loaded and then has a soundfont loaded into it (the track making the duplicates of) does shows the actual folder location in the file picker as I had mentioned, but if you save that session and then open it up again, then that file picker shows the same link file situation as all the duplicated MIDI tracks.

Nothing is going to be changed with this of course.
Just confusing because for example if you wanted to setup the first instance of the Ace Fluid Synth pluging and then make a bunch of duplicates so that you can then go into each one and just change the soundfont each one uses, it just makes things more complicated because rather than just being in the soundfont folder location you have to change each one from showing the project folders linked file location.
Even in general if you just were using the Ace Fluid Synth plugin to try out soundfonts in a particular location, and you save the session, when you re-open the project the link to that folder is gone.
