Summary | 0008379: Request - Hybrid audio/MIDI tracks
Description | A competing commercial DAW (BW) has the concept of a "Hardware Instrument", which (in their implementation) has a MIDI input, a MIDI output, and an audio input, all in one track. You mess around with / overdub the MIDI while monitoring audio, and then when ready bounce the MIDI to audio. There are at least two key advantages to the setup: 1) It only takes on up slot on your control surface (as opposed to separate audio / MIDI tracks for the same device) 2) You can have a per track latency analyzer; you tell it to start watching, then press a note on the keyboard; the application can then measure latency between MIDI note being sent and audio received I can provide screenshots of how other programs have implemented this, if useful.
