Summary | 0003873: Add runtime check of JACK version to give a warning rather than crashing
Description | Would it be possible to check the jackd version before trying to start it? This way a warning message could be issued to the user instead of just quitting. NOTE: I have jackd 0.109.2 installed which does not support the -r parameter.

JACK 0.109.2 was deprecated in December of 2008. The announcement on jackaudio.org said: "On behalf of the JACK development community, I am happy to announce the release of JACK 0.116.0. This is an important release, because it fixes all the problems reported with 0.115.6 and now makes 0.109.2 completely obsolete. Nobody should be using 0.109.2 within a few weeks, and even that is only to allow for distributions to update." We will not take responsibility for tracking the unbelievable use of this ancient version of JACK, though I do take your point that a runtime check of the version would not be a bad idea. I'll consider adding it to the ardour3 sanityCheck program or startup script. |
