Summary0002511: Sends: panning controls
DescriptionI just noticed some confusing behavior of the panner configuration inside sends. My goal is to insert four mono to stereo (m2s) sends pre-fade inside some m2s channels for the different monitor channels in the studio.

With this setup (mono channel with two stereo sends, output of mono channel routed to stereo master) you will notice an expected single m2s panner in the first send, but an unexpected dual-panner (stereo to stereo - s2s) in the second send. Every following m2s send will have this combination of panners.

If you remove both outputs of the channel strip completely, the second (and all following) send will show up as expected. Sometimes.

Cause if you fiddle around a bit by adding/removing send-outs and channel-outs you will notice more unexpected results.

(For example: m2s channel with four stereo sends, behavior as described above. removing all outputs of the channel and removing one of the second send, afterwards insert two new outputs to channel and one to the second send resulted in m2s-panner in first and third send and s2s-panner in second and fourth send. Deleting all outs of the channel now, deleting one in the third send afterwards, adding it again, the panner will appear as expected (m2s), but adding only one output to the channel again lets the panner in the third send appear as s2s again. If you click further this behavior is getting even stranger.)

Seems that ardour tries to "guess" the right in/out-config for sends and is doing something unexpected thereby.

Workaround: link both panners in the compromised sends (<=>, not ==>).
...and stop clicking randomly the add/remove-outs in the output-config of channels and sends ;)
Additional Information[ot]this is one of the greates pieces of software I've seen so far, keep up your hard and great work guys![/ot]

A3 sends don't have panners, I don't think. So this is kind of fixed in A3 ... ;)

actually, they do, and they can be edited.

if you double click on the send in the processor (plugin/send/insert) list, the mixer strip will be displaying settings for the send until you click the strip name button at the top.

at least, that is the idea. let us know how badly broken it is.
